Félix Vallotton’s Corn Fields presents the countryside through a simplified use of form and color.

Instead of painting every detail, he builds the landscape with broad bands of green fields, pale yellow strips, and a calm lavender sky.

This shifts the focus away from realism and toward harmony, where the land begins to read as pattern rather than place.

Dark green trees interrupt these fields, introducing contrast and variation within the order. Their presence prevents uniformity, adding a quiet tension between repetition and individuality.

The work reflects a meeting of natural growth and human arrangement, where cultivated land and organic forms exist together within a beautiful shared visual balance.

Félix Vallotton

A Swiss-French painter and printmaker of the late 19th and early 20th century, known for his bold, simplified approach to form. His work often reduced landscapes into flat shapes and strong contrasts, reflecting a graphic, modernist sensibility.

Blurring the line between painting and printmaking, his compositions invite viewers to see landscapes not as detailed scenes, but as carefully constructed visual statements.
